Our School
Our main goal is to instill confidence in our students. This is the greatest gift Jiu Jitsu has to offer. We are driven to build the best version of students both on and off the mat through a modern approach, valuing personal progress and highly-detailed training. This provides a well-rounded experience, with different techniques and positions as well as modern, innovative approaches to training that many gyms haven’t caught up to. Everything we have to offer – from years of experience to a newfound perspective – creates a truly unique experience. We give you the tools and support you need to thrive. History
Stephan Gristina and Trinity Pun created San Antonio Grappling Academy in 2025 with multiple goals in mind. First, they aimed to build a strong community that focuses on our members progressing and feeling comfortable training. Secondly, they set out to build a team of strong competitors.
The two grapplers have each spent over a decade in Jiu Jitsu and have worked to refine their craft for their students. Their work together and teaching for years – including Trinity’s time learning under John Danaher and Gordon Ryan – has helped them create their modern style of training. They hope to use all their experiences to help students work hard and overcome life’s limitations and challenges.

Instructors
Jiu Jitsu classes at San Antonio Grappling Academy are led by head instructor Stephan Gristina and instructor Trinity Pun. Each brings their own experience and perspective to the mat, using their past experiences. Still, they share the passion of helping others through Jiu Jitsu training. Jiu Jitsu Programs
Jiu Jitsu is the most effective martial art, proven through the early years of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), going forward to today you can still see it being used at the highest levels of all MMA fighting championships. While it is still growing into its own individual sport, it’s easy to see that the trajectory of Jiu Jitsu is continually growing. Check out our adults and kids Jiu Jitsu program to learn more.
Kids Jiu Jitsu
Some academies don’t dive into Jiu Jitsu for kids right away. We do. This is a very Jiu Jitsu forward class that focuses on the sport aspect of the art. While students learn competitive strategies and techniques, they are also building confidence, discipline among other skills, while having fun. This is an inviting environment that will have your children looking forward to class every day.
Adult Jiu Jitsu
Our adult program emphasizes helping to overcome challenges. Students are taught through the CLA (Constraint-Led Approach) as well as traditional technique-based instruction. This approach places constraints on certain aspects of the position, player, or situation to elicit specific skill acquisition. This philosophy helps adults dive into the art while improving their fitness, mental fortitude, and their competitive abilities.
